There are so many automatic drip coffee makers in the market with lot many advanced options. But the manual drip coffee makers are always the champions when it comes to the taste and flavor of coffee. The SCAA certified KitchenAid Coffee Maker KCM0802OB is one among them.
There may be some crazy coffeeholic, who still brew their coffee in the traditional pour-over method. However, the majority are not early birds. Every morning, we can not spend much time on the ritual of java preparation manually.
If you also fall into this “get up, sip and go” category, then KitchenAid KCM0802OB is for you. Don’t be confused. KCM0802Ob is an automatic coffee machine. But it mimics the manual pour over method. In other words, this brewer gives the perfect coffee that tastes similar to the one brewed using a traditional pour over method without compromising on time and convenience.
Today I am reviewing one of the SCAA Certified KitchenAid kcm0802ob in detail.
KitchenAid Coffee Maker KCM0802OB Reviews in Detail
The KitchenAid KCM0802OB meets the golden cup standard of SCAA. However, $179.99 (at the time of rating) is a bit too much since there are also other SCAA certified coffee brewers available with a lower price tag. Then, the immediate question will be, is it worth buying KCM0802 brewer which is bit expensive? Well, you need to consider other aspects also. Let me consider other factors and give my fair assessment.
Are you still thinking why such an expensive coffee machine?! Well, it is because you can not compromise with “the taste of the coffee”. I am a perfectionist when it comes to the taste of my java and my morning cup of joe matters a lot to me. During my bachelorette days, I had a percolator and then I got a Chemex as my wedding gift. Since now I am working, parenting and drinking Java every day (doing the last one more sincerely..Lol). Unfortunately, I cannot spend more time enjoying the ritual of java brewing manually. I never liked any automatic drip coffee machine. They make the whole process of java brewing faster and convenient. But sorry guys, I am picky; I want my java to be delicious and rich in flavor. I think KitchenAid have heard my prayers. KCM0802 is on the market now.
The KCM0802 Machine mimics pour-over method of coffee brewing. Generally, automatic drip coffee makers flood the brew basket with water. But pulse brew is the specialty of this brewer. It releases the water at regular intervals to control the extraction precisely and thus allows the grounds to “bloom.” That is why the brewer use of fewer grinds per serving while enhancing the flavor of the java. This Machine heats all of the water at once to the optimal brewing temperature of 198 to 204 degrees F and this contributes to the complex layers of flavor. No doubt about the taste and quality of java from this SCAA Certified Brewer.
The KitchenAid Brewer uses a paper filter. They have included brew basket clip to hold the paper filter firmly in its place. The engineers have considered this minute detail so well. Good work :-). However, if you are not happy with paper filters, you can use permanent filter Medelco #4 Cone Permanent Coffee Filter. There are only four paper filters coming along with this product anyhow!
One of my gripes is about the carafe. This Machine uses glass carafe and does not come with thermal carafe option 🙁
The narrow rectangle opening at the top of the water reservoir is bit small and filling water through this opening is a challenging task. Since I am tall, I managed to pour water into the reservoir without spilling. But it definitely takes some time and effort to accomplish this task.
Also, you need to turn the carafe upside down to empty it completely. This does not seem so functional to me. I love my java…even those last few ounces…I can not sacrifice it to the carafe itself..!!!
Ease of use
Cup selector option allows you to select the number of cups you want to brew – 2, 4, 6 or 8 according to the number of java lovers at home.
This KitchenAid Machine 24 hours programmable has some quite easy options to set. You can select the strength of your brew from medium to dark roast according to your wish. Progress bar in the KCM0802OB gives the visual display of each step of the brewing process, from heating to pouring and then steeping.Just press Brew button and wait. For example, if you are going to brew eight cups of java, it takes six minutes to heat the water. The display screen will tell you that’s what is happening. After the six minutes, hot water starts pouring on the grounds and stops for a while allowing it to drip through. So, the display will alternate between Pouring and Steeping; Brew cycle can be stopped at any time by pressing Brew button again.
This KCM0802OB Machine has got auto shut-off option. So, if you press brew button but have forgotten to fill the reservoir, no worries, the machine shut off by itself. In case, if there is some water left in the reservoir, it starts brew cycle and compromises what is left in the carafe.
A little more than five minutes for 4 cup of delicious java is not bad. This may be slow when compared with some of the other automatic brewers. There are certainly other faster options. But KCM0802 has its own reason to take that time to brew your morning cuppa. After all, how can we expect a pour over method to be faster?!
The unit comes with one year warranty. The glass carafe may be the one part that you need be careful about. For careful handlers, this may not be an issue.
This SCAA certified KitchenAid Machine comes with three different color options and it looks good. You may find the machine bit taller. If you have enough place in your kitchen cabinet then go for it. I actually had placed my brewer on a slide-out pad. It makes sliding the coffee brewer out from the cabinet a breeze and helps a lot.
